Frequently Asked Questions:-

  1. Lighting Market & the Need of the Program

The Lighting Industry with an estimated market of over Rs.8600 Crores is witnessing tremendous growth with annual growth of 13%. In spite of the continuous growth, nothing much has been done to develop professionals with more scientific and innovative approach. style="mso-spacerun: yes">  Not many Institutes are providing education and research opportunities in this vital field of Lighting. On an interaction with ELCOMA – Electric Lamp & Component Manufacturers’ Association of India, an apex body of lighting manufacturers representing Philips, Osram, Bajaj Electricals, Crompton Greaves, Wipro, GE etc., it is learnt that since not many Institutes are providing education and research opportunities in this vital field of Lighting, presently they have to contend with the professionals having background of Electrical / Electronics Engineering.

  2. Why everybody is talking about Energy Management ?

India is a Developing nation. Its per capita Energy Consumption is very low. To achieve Economic Growth, we need to and have to use more and more energy to increase the pace of development. It is estimated that Industrial energy use in developing countries constitutes about 45-50 % of the total commercial energy consumption. Much of this energy is converted from imported oil, the price of which has increased tremendously so much so that most of developing countries spent more than 50 % of their foreign exchange earnings.

On the other hand, generation of power needs resources. Resources available on earth are of Diminishing Nature. It is getting depleted very fast with time as use is increasing exponentially. There are some resources, which are Renewable e.g. Solar Power, Wind Power and Geothermal Power. Technology is also being developed to harness these Renewable Resources to generate Power.

To establish any work / motive or task, energy in one or other form is an essential component. Thus the need to conserve energy, particularly in industry and commerce is strongly felt as the energy cost takes up substantial share in the overall cost structure of the operation. Hence it calls MANAGEMENT OF ENERGY or in other words MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES or ENERGY CONSERVATION.

  3. What is Energy Conservation Act 2001 ?

The Energy Conservation Act implemented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body under Government of India, envisages creation of cadre of professionally qualified energy managers and auditors with expertise in energy management, project management, financing and implementation of energy efficiency projects, as well as policy analysis. It is a Law to force firms to make more profit and not an Act to control and monitor energy consumption of industry.

  4. Need of Energy Managers / Auditors

Government of India has enacted the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 keeping in view of importance and benefits of energy efficiency. The Schedule to the Energy Conservation Act provides list of energy Intensive Industries and other establishments, specified as Designated Consumers. A Designated Consumer has to designate or appoint Energy Manager / Auditor possessing a minimum qualification. The Energy Manager / Auditor occupies an important position and is focal point of all the activities pertaining to Energy Management in the organization

  5. Basic Objective of Program

To develop professionals in this exciting world of Lighting Technology and Energy Management not only for Jobs but to motivate them for research / inventions./ and to become entrepreneur.

  6. PGP IN LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY & ENERGY MANAGEMENT (PGP-LTEM)

In view of the provision of Energy Conservation Act and envisaging the demand of Energy Managers not only in Lighting Industry but all other industries, MITSOL has taken initiative to rechristen and redesign its existing PGP in Lighting Technology & Management (PGP-LTM) as PGP in Lighting Technology & Energy Management (PGP-LTEM).The program will contain all major inputs required for becoming an Energy Manager / Energy Auditor.

  7. What is the Scope of Lighting ?

Lighting is no more restricted to conventional illumination, but has find wide applications in Agriculture, High Power Video and Cinema Projectors for Education,
Security Monitoring, Entertainment, Communication, Biological Lighting, Aqua Tissue
    Culture, Pollution Control, etc.

  8. Is this program related to Illumination ?

Yes, this Program is related to Illumination but not restricted to it, since it will cover full spectrum of Lighting which includes Ultra Violet (UV) and Infra Red (IR) range.

  9. What are the applications of Ultra Violet (UV) and Infra Red (IR)

UV and IR are used today in every sphere of life starting form our houses in purifying water (Acqua Guard) to sophisticated surgery through Laser Beams.

  10. Which are other places in India where such Program is being taught ?

Such Techno-Managerial Program is not being conducted anywhere in the country. This is the first time that under the guidance of Prof.(Dr) Vishwanath D. Karad, Executive President & Director General of Maharashtra Academy of Engineering & Educational style="mso-spacerun: yes">  Research, Pune, India this Program has been designed. style="mso-spacerun: yes">  It is launched in 2007 under the leadership of Dr.Sunil Karad, Executive Director, MAEER’s MIT Group of Institutes.

  11. Is this Program affiliated to any University / Board ?
