Assessment Pattern
Main course
To encourage a continuous learning model, the weightage for class attendance, class
participation, and surprise quizzes in the overall course is 50% (class participation
to the extent of 25% and surprise quizzes of 25%). The remaining 50% would be split
20% for an in-class pre-announced examination and 30% for a pre-announced term end
examination.
Examinations would test students' understanding of course contents, and their ability
to make critical judgments rather than their ability to regurgitate class readings.
MITLRA follows relative grading system. Students in a class would be ranked
based on the combined weighted average of the score obtained in class participation,
surprise quizzes, attendance, pre announced in class examination, and term end examination.
Credit System
Education at the Institute is organized around the credit system of study. The prominent
features of the credit system are process of continuous evaluation of a student’s
performance, and a flexibility to allow a student to progress at an optimum pace
suited to his/her ability or convenience subject to fulfilling minimum requirement
for continuation. Each course has a certain number of credits, which describe its
weightage. The number of credits that he/she has completed satisfactorily measures
a student’s performance. A minimum Grade Point Average is required to be maintained
for satisfactory progress. Also a minimum number of earned credits should be obtained
In order to qualify for the degree.
